rock thrush in lesotho

this is either a Sentinal or Short Toed rock thrush. On my honeymoon late last year we went to lesotho and ended up at the top of Sani Pass (one heck of a 4x4 road!). It is a shade under 3000ms in altitude so its helluva cold...and when the mist rolls in its hits you like a brick wall its so cold and wet. But what a magic place and environment. This little guy was very at home on the rock precipice. He must have a hard life up there as there are also massive eagles and its very inhospitable

I still cant believe i got 250th of a second in such misty conditions...i love the contrast on the volcanic rock and his standing position.

apparently lesotho was formed by volcanic activity on top of the existing mountain range. Lesotho is highest country in the world based on average height and is called the mountain kingdom for that. It is very friendly and welcoming (albeit a bit dicey with dodgy fines at roadblocks) and i highly recommend it for a holiday for those adventurous sprirts out there.
